“I’ve got an idea.” She kicked off her heels. “Maybe I should step on you. Break the ice.”
He laughed. “What?”
She darted forward and stepped on his toe really quick. “There. See?”
He gaped at her. “You stepped on me.”
“And it didn’t hurt, did it? See? You try it.”
The disbelief on his face slid into bemusement. “Uh, pass. I’m a lot heavier than you are.”
She stepped on him again, but instead of darting away immediately, she wobbled, and he put his hands on her waist to steady her. A little zip of…something raced through her at his touch.
Backing away, she said, “Take off your shoes. Try it.”
“Nope.” He pushed his glasses higher up his nose. “Not purposely stepping on you.”
“Well, take off your shoes, anyway. That way if you do step on me, it won’t hurt.”
Chuckling, he shook his head. “You’re something else.”
